Additional Information for UL Student Vetting Process - PG

Postgraduate Student Vetting Requirement

The University of Limerick offers a number of undergraduate and taught postgraduate educational and training programmes that require students to undertake placements, with external agencies, which may bring them into contact with children and vulnerable adults and to assume positions of trust. To ensure the protection of the public and justify public trust and confidence, the University is committed to ensuring that only suitable candidates are allowed to undertake these programmes.

In accordance with the National Vetting Bureau (Children & Vulnerable Persons) Acts 2012-2016 and UL’s Student Vetting Policy  there is a statutory requirement for all students on programmes that include a placement involving work with children or vulnerable adults to be vetted.

(Name of programme) is one of these programmes. To apply to be vetted, you should now:

  • Complete the enclosed Vetting Invitation Form (NVB 1) in accordance with the Guidelines for completing Vetting Invitation Form.

  • Fill out the UL Photographic Identity Certification Form (2) and get this form certified by showing your Passport, Driving License (credit card size) or National ID Card to one of the following: An Garda Siochana/a solicitor/a secondary school headmaster/UL Department administrator.

  • Confirm your provisional enrolment on your programme as part of the UL online enrolment process.

  • If you have lived outside of Ireland for a period of more than six months since reaching 16 years of age, you are also required to provide an International Police Clearance Certificate (Criminal History Check) from each country in which you have lived. Please apply for this certification as soon as possible as it can be a lengthy process. (Where there is likely to be a delay in submitting an International Police Clearance Certificate, you may be requested to sign a Sworn Affidavit).

Keep a copy of all documents and place the completed original documents: Vetting Invitation Form (NVB 1); UL Photographic Identity Certification Form (2); your UL Programme Offer Letter and International Police Clearance Certificate (if required) in the enclosed addressed envelope and return as soon as possible.

UL will then process your Vetting Invitation through the National Vetting Bureau who will send you an email with a link to complete the full Vetting Application Form online. Full details of any convictions or criminal prosecutions (past or pending) must be included. It is imperative that no false information is furnished.  Failure to do so may result in you not being allowed to undertake your practice placement. This online application should be completed immediately.

Where issues arise around clearance, you will be contacted by either the National Vetting Bureau or the UL Liaison Person.

When you have been vetted, your Course Director will be informed.

Please note that your registration remains provisional until you have complied with UL’s student vetting requirements.
