The Contemporary Issues in Employment Law’project was designed to allow students break free from the ‘academic loop’ and interact closely with those at the coal face of modern employment disputes. Participating students form teams and identify a topical area of employment law that they would be interested in researching. The participants then avail of the close links between the UL Law School and the Limerick Citizens Information Centre, by presenting their findings to advisors working within the Citizens Information Centre. Former participants have commented on how the project gave them a real sense of the ‘law in action’ as distinct from a purely academic examination of legal provisions. Participants have also noted how it has improved their public speaking skills and helped them interact with the community outside of the University.
